Place Pélissière and old Bergerac
At the heart of the old centre, Place Pélissière, cobbled and lined with half-timbered houses, watches over a fountain and a statue of Cyrano, panache cast in bronze. Around it, the lanes hide quiet cafés and craft workshops. Saint-Jacques Church, a stop on the Compostela way, stands a step away. A watercolour-postcard setting, perfect for a slow stroll together.
Bergerac port and old bridge
Once devoted to the wine trade run by the gabariers, the old port of Bergerac recalls the golden age of Dordogne boatmen. Today you can board a replica gabare for a commentated trip along the river. From the old bridge, the view over the roofs and bell tower is a Sunday afternoon classic. A peaceful date, rocked by the current.
Monbazillac, Pécharmant, Wine House
Around Bergerac, thirteen appellations make up a little-known vineyard: the sweet whites of Monbazillac, the tannic reds of Pécharmant, the elegant Côtes de Bergerac. The Wine House, in the former Récollets cloister, offers tastings and workshops. On Lyad, people from Bergerac share their favourite estates; a chance to find someone to open the next bottle with.
